Frequently asked questions
What is involved?
Step 1 is a full consultation to assess your suitability and to take take impressions of your teeth so we can make you a set of personal whitening trays. Your dentist will also choose the strength of the whitening gel most suitable for your teeth.
Step 2 is 10 to 12 evenings of wearing the trays at home. This could be for as little as 1 hour in the evening.
How long will it last?
The effects of whitening can last up to three years. However, this will vary from person to person. The effect is less likely to last as long if you smoke, or eat or drink products that can stain your teeth. With the IOSIS system you have the opportunity to top up your whitening to ensure your sparkling, confident smile lasts much longer. We recommend that whitening is top-up every 12 months.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes. Clinical studies have shown that bleaching with carbamide or hydrogen peroxide if done correctly under the application or instruction of dentist, is safe for teeth and gums. Your dentist will ensure that you are suitable for the treatment before you go ahead. Some patients will experience some sensitivity, which is usually short lived.
How can I look after my whitened teeth?
You can help to keep your teeth white by cutting down on the amount of food and drinks you have that can stain teeth. Don't forget, stopping smoking can also help prevent discolouration and staining.
